Frequently Asked Questions

What does the raised barrel design on the Sweet Tater do?
The raised barrel narrows the effective sweet spot of the bat. When a hitter squares the ball up correctly, they feel solid contact. When they miss the sweet spot, they feel and hear it immediately — the bat delivers feedback that's much sharper than what a standard wood bat would. That feedback loop is what makes the Sweet Tater an effective training tool.
When should I use the Sweet Tater in my training?
The Sweet Tater works in three main contexts: tee work (where the feedback is cleanest), live BP first rounds (to dial in barrel awareness before getting tired), and as a rotation tool alongside your regulation wood bat. Many hitting instructors recommend 10 to 15 reps with the Sweet Tater before switching to a game bat for the rest of the session.
Is the Sweet Tater good for players new to wood bats?
Yes — that's the primary use case. Players transitioning from metal BBCOR bats to wood face a much smaller sweet spot, and the Sweet Tater accelerates the adjustment. High school players moving to summer wood-bat leagues, college freshmen entering wood-only programs, and adult-league players picking up wood for the first time all benefit from the targeted feedback.
Where can I learn how to use the training bats?
You can learn how to use Tater training bats through our eBooks collection at taterbaseball.com/collections/ebook — detailed guides and training programs are available, including the free Tater Split Grip Overload & Underload Training Guide and our 6-Week Strength Training Program.
How can Tater training bats improve my game?
Tater training bats are designed to target specific areas of your hitting technique — strength, hand-eye coordination, swing speed, and precision. Consistent use of these training tools leads to significant improvements in overall performance at the plate.
Can I get a discount for team or bulk orders?
Yes — we offer team and bulk order discounts on training bats. Email contact@taterbaseball.com to discuss your needs and receive a customized quote for your program.
Are Tater training bats suitable for players of all ages?
Yes, we offer training bats suitable for players of all ages and skill levels. Be sure to select the appropriate size and weight for the player to ensure effective and safe training. Younger players typically start with the Mini G Force or the 26" ML19; high school and adult players use the full-size models.
How do I choose the right training bat for my needs?
Choosing the right training bat depends on your training goals. To build swing strength, the G Force 2.0 overload trainer is the play. To increase bat speed, the SST underload trainer. For hand-eye coordination and contact, the DFT Double Flat Trainer or Sweet Tater. For inside-out drills, the ML19 short bat.
