Frequently Asked Questions
What is a fungo bat?
A fungo bat is a long, thin, lightweight wood bat used by coaches to hit ground balls and fly balls to fielders during practice. The narrower barrel and lighter swing weight let a coach hit hundreds of clean reps per session without exhausting their arm — which a regulation game bat can't sustain. Fungos are coach tools, not game tools, and aren't legal for game play.
What length fungo bat should I order?
Most adult coaches use fungo bats between 34" and 37". Taller coaches and coaches who hit more outfield fly balls tend to prefer longer fungos (36"–37") for the additional reach and trajectory control. Shorter coaches or coaches who hit primarily infield ground balls often prefer 34"–35" for better barrel control. Tater fungo bats are available across this range.
What makes Tater fungo bats different from cheaper options?
Same wood, same Connecticut shop, same hand-finishing standard as our pro wood bats. Cheap fungos break, crack at the handle, and create inconsistent barrel feel that affects the consistency of the reps a coach can feed. Tater fungos are built to deliver clean rounds for years of practice work — not a season of plastic-grade hits.
Fungo Bats — Pro-Grade Coaches Bats
Tater fungo bats are built specifically for coaches: narrow barrels, thin handles, lighter weights, and the right balance to hit hundreds of ground balls and fly balls per practice without arm fatigue. Every fungo is built from the same MLB-grade maple billets we use on our game bats.
Pick by practice type:
- IF1 Infield Fungo — narrower 2.25" barrel, balanced feel, optimized for precise ground balls
- PS150 Outfield Fungo — wider 2.438" barrel, slight end load, lifts fly balls cleanly
- Mystery Fungo — pick the length, we pick the surprise colorway, ships next business day
