What's the two-tone Charcoal Handle / Pine Tar Barrel finish?
The two-tone finish flips the colors on a traditional pine tar look — instead of the pine tar running down the handle, the barrel carries the sealed pine tar finish while the handle goes dark charcoal. The result is a clean two-tone aesthetic that reads pro on the rack. The pine tar finish is sealed into the wood, not surface-applied, so it doesn't transfer to your gloves or gear.

What size wood bat should I order?
Most high school, college, and adult hitters swing 32"–34" at a -3 drop, meaning the weight in ounces is 3 less than the length in inches (a 33" bat weighs about 30 oz). Youth players usually swing 26"–31" depending on age. Between sizes? Go shorter: a bat you can control beats a bat you can't. Switching from metal? Wood swings heavier at the same length, so a balanced model like the X12 or 271 is a good start. Wood bats are allowed in most high school, college, and adult leagues (BBCOR certification applies to metal and composite bats, not wood), but rules vary, so check your league's rulebook. What types of wood are Tater bats made from?
Hard maple and yellow birch — both MLB-grade. Maple has been the pro standard for over 20 years: densest, hardest hitting surface, biggest pop on clean contact, but a smaller sweet spot and less forgiveness on mis-hits. Birch sits between maple and ash — similar density to maple with more flex on impact, which makes it more forgiving on mis-hits and a smart starting point for hitters transitioning from metal to wood. Yes. Tater Baseball is an MLB-supplier wood bat company — our bats are swung by professional players at the highest level of the game. There is no separate "consumer-grade" production line. The same MLB-grade billets, the same hand-finishing process, and the same QA standards apply to every retail bat we ship as to the bats we cut for pro hitters.
What is the warranty on Tater wood bats?
Every Tater wood bat has a 30-day warranty against cracking from normal use, starting on the delivery date. It covers bats bought on taterbaseball.com, at our Cheshire store, or from an authorized dealer like Better Baseball. If your bat cracks, email contact@taterbaseball.com with your order number and photos, and we'll replace it. To keep it valid, don't hit dimpled cage balls, don't store the bat in a hot car or garage, and don't sand or modify the handle. Unused stock bats can also be returned or exchanged within 30 days; custom and engraved bats are final sale. Why are wood bats cupped at the end?
Cupping is a small concave dish drilled into the end of the barrel. It removes a few grams of mass from the very tip, which shifts the bat's balance point slightly toward the hands and makes the swing feel quicker through the zone. Tater hand-cups each bat, and our process allows for variable cup depths to dial in feel without compromising end-cap strength — which actually reduces the risk of chips and cracks on inside pitches.
What is the black dot on the handle?
The ink dot is a quality check. Before a billet becomes a Tater bat, we test the straightness of its grain by placing a drop of ink on the handle and watching how it spreads along the grain. Straight grain is stronger and less likely to break. The dot that stays on the handle shows the bat passed that test before it left our shop. Every Tater maple and birch bat carries one.

This bat is easily my favorite wood bat that I have ever owned. I own a batting cage facility and this is my cage bat that I use almost daily. I have over 1000 swings on this bad boy and aside from the logo rubbing off a bit (which is a user issue, not a bat issue) it has held up amazingly well. It is a very balanced bat that aligns perfectly with my swing. I’m a Tater convert.
