We as ballplayers know through experience that the pine tar look is swaggy — but real pine tar comes with cons. It can ruin the rest of your gear or other bats. Putting it in your bag, resting it on your shoulder, or grabbing it with batting gloves spreads tar all over without you noticing.

What size wood bat should I order?
Length ranges from 30"–34". Drop weight (length-to-weight ratio) ranges from -3 to +2. Drop weight is the difference between bat length in inches and bat weight in ounces — a -3 drop means a 34" bat weighs 31 oz. Most adult hitters use 32"–34" at a -2 or -3 drop. What types of wood are Tater bats made from?
Hard maple and yellow birch — both MLB-grade. Maple has been the pro standard for over 20 years: densest, hardest hitting surface, biggest pop on clean contact, but a smaller sweet spot and less forgiveness on mis-hits. Birch sits between maple and ash — similar density to maple with more flex on impact, which makes it more forgiving on mis-hits and a smart starting point for hitters transitioning from metal to wood. Yes. Tater Baseball is an MLB-supplier wood bat company — our bats are swung by professional players at the highest level of the game. There is no separate "consumer-grade" production line. The same MLB-grade billets, the same hand-finishing process, and the same QA standards apply to every retail bat we ship as to the bats we cut for pro hitters.
What is the warranty on Tater wood bats?
30-day limited warranty on structural cracking under normal field use. To qualify, the bat must be a 2021 model year or later, you must be the original purchaser with proof of purchase from an authorized Tater dealer, and you must have followed our hitting guidelines (no cage-style dimpled balls, no storage in extreme heat or cold like a car trunk, no excessive moisture exposure). Why are wood bats cupped at the end?
Cupping is a small concave dish drilled into the end of the barrel. It removes a few grams of mass from the very tip, which shifts the bat's balance point slightly toward the hands and makes the swing feel quicker through the zone. Tater hand-cups each bat, and our process allows for variable cup depths to dial in feel without compromising end-cap strength — which actually reduces the risk of chips and cracks on inside pitches.
What is the black dot on the handle?
Every Tater maple and birch bat carries an ink dot near the handle as proof of MLB-grade slope-of-grain certification. The ink dot's bleed pattern reveals whether the wood grain runs cleanly along the bat's long axis — a tight bleed means safe, MLB-spec slope; a fast bleed means rejected billet. The dot is the visible proof every bat passed inspection before leaving our shop.

I’ve been a fan of Tater, since I was introduced to them back in 2022 where I purchased my first bat. I had that bat until recently where I’d broke but I was using it consistently and it lasted longer than any wooden bat I had prior to getting a Tater bat. Highly recommend anything they sell. I purchased this bat for my son Tyler. Tyler is the captain of the Worcester State Lancers baseball team. This summer, he was selected to play on the Worcester Bravehearts (Futures baseball) and is currently playing on the Lunenburg Phillies ( college summer baseball ). Tyler asked if I would purchase the bat as he used a Tater bat while he was with the Bravehearts. He absolutely loves the look, feel , and pop that gets using the bat. I was struggling last summer having trouble whipping through the zone until a friend of mine let me use this exact bat! All it took was one AB and I never looked back. Been playing baseball for years played all the way thru college so I’ve swung pretty much everything around and believe me this is one of the best bats I’ve ever swung. Very balanced and super durable. The feeling when the Ball hits the barrel is flawless and you can feel how well constructed the bat is especially when making bad contact. Legitimately don’t think I’ll be swinging other bats again, I genuinely found the perfect bat for me.
