The Tater® Overload & Underload Training Pack is the complete overload underload training bundle. Two specialized training bats that target the three key elements of the swing: strength, barrel control, and bat whip. Built to engineer a swing that does damage at the plate.

What is overload underload training

Overload underload training is one of the most popular and effective methods for improving baseball and softball swings. The science is simple. Swing an overload training bat — heavier than your game bat — to build strength. Then swing an underload training bat — lighter than your game bat — to build bat speed and whip. The contrast trains the muscles to recruit faster, generate more force, and stay through the ball.

Hitting coaches at all levels integrate this methodology into their programs. That includes professional, collegiate, and amateur levels, for two reasons:

  • It promotes proper swing mechanics.
  • It delivers real results.

What's in the pack

The Tater® training pack includes both bats — the heavy and the light side of the same methodology. The SST Underload Trainer and the G Force Split Grip® Overload Trainer are trusted in pro ballparks. They're also used in training facilities and on college campuses nationwide.

Who this pack is for

The pack is built for serious hitters. That includes high school, college, and adult-league players who want measurable swing improvements between seasons. Hitting instructors use the pack with multiple students at a time. Travel ball programs buy multiple packs for off-season skill development. Parents of competitive players invest in the pack because it gives their kid a real training advantage.

How to size the pack

Choose the same size bat you currently swing as your game bat. The overload and underload weights adjust automatically. Both bats arrive sized to your specs. Younger players or hitters working on inside-pitch drills have an alternative. Try our 28" Mini Split Grip® Trainer instead.

LEVEL UP AT THE PLATE

Backed by data from top tech like Trackman, Rapsodo, and HitTrax - real improvement where it matters.

BAT SPEED

Using heavy and light bats helps players swing faster. The heavy bat makes you stronger, and the light bat trains your muscles to move quicker, helping you hit better and faster.

CONNECTION

The split-grip drills require players to activate different parts of their body, like their lower half, to stay balanced and use their body properly while swinging through the zone.

EXIT VELOCITY

With faster swings and a better bat path, players will hit the ball harder and more often, making their hits stronger and nd driving the ball further.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between overload and underload training?
The Tater overload underload training Pack uses a heavy bat to build swing strength and a lighter bat to increase bat speed. This specific overload underload training methodology is more effective than standard practice because it forces the nervous system to adapt to different loads, improving both power and hand speed during each swing.
How do I size the pack to my game bat?
Choose the same length you currently swing. The G Force Split Grip® Overload Trainer will weigh approximately 6 to 8 ounces more than a standard game bat at that length. The SST Underload Trainer will weigh 5 to 6 ounces less. For example, if you swing a 32" game bat, the pack ships with a 32" overload at ~40 oz and a 32" underload at ~26 oz.
Who uses overload and underload training bats?
Hitting coaches at every level use overload and underload training. Major League hitters use it during off-season strength work. College and high school programs use it to develop swing speed in their hitters. Amateur and travel ball instructors use it with younger players for swing mechanics. Tater Baseball®'s Overload & Underload Training Pack ships with both bats so you can start the program immediately.
Where can I learn how to use the training bats?
You can learn how to use Tater training bats through our eBooks collection at taterbaseball.com/collections/ebook — detailed guides and training programs are available, including the free Tater Split Grip Overload & Underload Training Guide and our 6-Week Strength Training Program.
How can Tater training bats improve my game?
Tater training bats are designed to target specific areas of your hitting technique — strength, hand-eye coordination, swing speed, and precision. Consistent use of these training tools leads to significant improvements in overall performance at the plate.
Can I get a discount for team or bulk orders?
Yes — we offer team and bulk order discounts on training bats. Email contact@taterbaseball.com to discuss your needs and receive a customized quote for your program.
Are Tater training bats suitable for players of all ages?
Yes, we offer training bats suitable for players of all ages and skill levels. Be sure to select the appropriate size and weight for the player to ensure effective and safe training. Younger players typically start with the Mini G Force or the 26" ML19; high school and adult players use the full-size models.
How do I choose the right training bat for my needs?
Choosing the right training bat depends on your training goals. To build swing strength, the G Force 2.0 overload trainer is the play. To increase bat speed, the SST underload trainer. For hand-eye coordination and contact, the DFT Double Flat Trainer or Sweet Tater. For inside-out drills, the ML19 short bat.
