The Tater® Split Grip® Game Trainer bridges overload training and live game swings. It's available in 30 to 34" lengths with weight matched to true game-bat balance. Hand-built in the USA.

The Split Grip® Game Trainer — from cage to box

This bat solves the gap between overload training and live competition. It maintains the same Split Grip® position players develop with the G Force 2.0. The difference is a game-balanced weight profile. That lets hitters swing at full intent, reinforcing bat path, barrel control, and sequencing at the speed the game demands.

The 3-in-1 grip design

The bat offers three grip positions in one tool. Two Split Grip® variations let hitters keep working on the hand-isolation training they get from the G Force. The traditional grip lets them seamlessly transition to game swings within the same session. No need to pick up a different tool.

Where it fits in the overload-to-game progression

The Split Grip® family is built as a progression. Start with the G Force 2.0 overload trainer to build strength and lock in mechanics. Pair it with the SST Underload Trainer for speed work. Use this bat as the bridge into game-speed reps. Then step into a live at-bat with a regulation game bat.

Younger players can swap the full-size G Force for the 28" Mini G Force 2.0. Tight cage spaces also work better with the Mini's compact length.

When to use the Game Trainer

  • Tee work. Drill barrel control and bat path at game-balanced weight.
  • Front toss. Reinforce timing and sequencing without the overload weight.
  • Off the machine. Build up to live pitching speed with game-balanced feel.
  • Off-season and in-season. Works year-round as a transition tool between training and live BP.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between the Split Grip® Game Trainer and the G Force 2.0?
Both use the same patent-pending Split Grip® hand-isolation design. The difference is weight. The G Force 2.0 is an overload trainer — +6 to 8 ounces over a standard game bat — built to develop strength and lock in mechanics. The Game Trainer matches true game-bat balance at each length, letting hitters swing at full game speed without the overload weight. Use the G Force for strength work, then bridge to the Game Trainer for game-speed reps.
What is the 3-in-1 grip design?
The Split Grip® Game Trainer has three grip positions on a single bat. Two Split Grip® variations let hitters continue the hand-isolation training they get from the G Force 2.0. A traditional grip lets them transition to game-style swings within the same session. The 3-in-1 design eliminates the need to pick up different tools between drill work and game-speed reps.
Can the Split Grip® Game Trainer be used in a game?
No — the Game Trainer is a training bat, not a regulation game bat. The Split Grip® hand-isolation feature requires the patent-pending grip design that isn't legal for regulation game use. Use it in practice for tee work, front toss, and machine BP, then bring the swing mechanics it reinforces to your regulation game bat.
Where can I learn how to use the training bats?
You can learn how to use Tater training bats through our eBooks collection at taterbaseball.com/collections/ebook — detailed guides and training programs are available, including the free Tater Split Grip Overload & Underload Training Guide and our 6-Week Strength Training Program.
How can Tater training bats improve my game?
Tater training bats are designed to target specific areas of your hitting technique — strength, hand-eye coordination, swing speed, and precision. Consistent use of these training tools leads to significant improvements in overall performance at the plate.
Can I get a discount for team or bulk orders?
Yes — we offer team and bulk order discounts on training bats. Email contact@taterbaseball.com to discuss your needs and receive a customized quote for your program.
Are Tater training bats suitable for players of all ages?
Yes, we offer training bats suitable for players of all ages and skill levels. Be sure to select the appropriate size and weight for the player to ensure effective and safe training. Younger players typically start with the Mini G Force or the 26" ML19; high school and adult players use the full-size models.
How do I choose the right training bat for my needs?
Choosing the right training bat depends on your training goals. To build swing strength, the G Force 2.0 overload trainer is the play. To increase bat speed, the SST underload trainer. For hand-eye coordination and contact, the DFT Double Flat Trainer or Sweet Tater. For inside-out drills, the ML19 short bat.
