The X12CB — rebalanced for bat speed
The X12CB takes the X12's proven thin handle and medium barrel and adds a hockey puck knob that shifts the balance point toward the hands — producing a faster, more controlled swing without changing the turn.

Extended ~1" puck knob counterbalances the barrel weight — moving the balance point closer to the hands for a quicker, lighter feel through the zone.

Tater X12CB — The Counterbalanced X12
The X12CB is built for hitters who love the X12 but want more bat speed. The hockey puck knob adds approximately 1" to the handle end and counterbalances the barrel — shifting the balance point closer to the hands so the bat feels lighter and moves faster through the zone. Same thin handle, same medium barrel, same balanced feel as the X12. Just quicker.
The flared puck knob sits comfortably in the bottom hand and keeps the grip secure through contact — giving hitters the control to stay through the ball even at higher swing speeds.

What is a counterbalance wood bat?
A counterbalance wood bat uses extra mass at the knob end of the handle to offset the barrel weight. The total bat weight on the scale stays the same, but the balance point shifts closer to your hands — which makes the bat feel lighter and swing faster. On the Tater X12CB, that extra mass comes from a hockey puck knob (about 1" of additional knob material). The benefit: faster bat speed without losing barrel mass. More time to read the pitch and still get through the zone with authority. It's why counterbalanced designs have become so popular in pro baseball over the last few seasons.
X12CB vs the standard X12 — which one should I pick?
Same turn shape, same thin handle, same medium barrel, same balanced feel. The only difference is the puck knob. Pick the standard X12 if you want the traditional balanced feel and a classic knob. Pick the X12CB if you want the same bat with extra bat speed from the counterbalance. Hitters who feel slightly late to the ball with a standard knob, or who want to feel the barrel move faster through the zone, tend to gravitate toward the X12CB. Both are built to the same MLB-grade standard.
What's the lead time on a Tater X12CB?

What size wood bat should I order?
Length ranges from 30"–34". Drop weight (length-to-weight ratio) ranges from -3 to +2. Drop weight is the difference between bat length in inches and bat weight in ounces — a -3 drop means a 34" bat weighs 31 oz. Most adult hitters use 32"–34" at a -2 or -3 drop. What types of wood are Tater bats made from?
Hard maple and yellow birch — both MLB-grade. Maple has been the pro standard for over 20 years: densest, hardest hitting surface, biggest pop on clean contact, but a smaller sweet spot and less forgiveness on mis-hits. Birch sits between maple and ash — similar density to maple with more flex on impact, which makes it more forgiving on mis-hits and a smart starting point for hitters transitioning from metal to wood. Yes. Tater Baseball is an MLB-supplier wood bat company — our bats are swung by professional players at the highest level of the game. There is no separate "consumer-grade" production line. The same MLB-grade billets, the same hand-finishing process, and the same QA standards apply to every retail bat we ship as to the bats we cut for pro hitters.
What is the warranty on Tater wood bats?
30-day limited warranty on structural cracking under normal field use. To qualify, the bat must be a 2021 model year or later, you must be the original purchaser with proof of purchase from an authorized Tater dealer, and you must have followed our hitting guidelines (no cage-style dimpled balls, no storage in extreme heat or cold like a car trunk, no excessive moisture exposure). Why are wood bats cupped at the end?
Cupping is a small concave dish drilled into the end of the barrel. It removes a few grams of mass from the very tip, which shifts the bat's balance point slightly toward the hands and makes the swing feel quicker through the zone. Tater hand-cups each bat, and our process allows for variable cup depths to dial in feel without compromising end-cap strength — which actually reduces the risk of chips and cracks on inside pitches.
What is the black dot on the handle?
Every Tater maple and birch bat carries an ink dot near the handle as proof of MLB-grade slope-of-grain certification. The ink dot's bleed pattern reveals whether the wood grain runs cleanly along the bat's long axis — a tight bleed means safe, MLB-spec slope; a fast bleed means rejected billet. The dot is the visible proof every bat passed inspection before leaving our shop.
