The 271 wood bat — the classic turn
The 271 has been one of the most-used turn models in professional baseball for over 50 years. Its medium handle, medium barrel, and rapid taper-to-barrel transition create a balanced, versatile bat. It doesn't force hitters into a box. Whether you're driving the ball or working the whole field, the 271 holds up.
The flared knob enhances grip and comfort across different hand positions and hitting styles. That's one of the reasons the 271 baseball bat has stayed relevant across generations of professional hitters.
Why the 271 is the most-searched turn model
Walk into any pro clubhouse and ask hitters what turn they swing. A meaningful fraction will say 271. That's not an accident. The 271's medium-medium-balanced spec works for the widest range of hitters of any single turn profile in baseball. Contact hitters get the speed they need. Power hitters get the barrel mass they need. Everyone in between gets a build that doesn't force a tradeoff.
If you don't know what turn model you want yet, the 271 is the right place to start.
How the 271 compares to other Tater turns
The 271 is the classic baseline. Tater Baseball® also offers turns that lean in specific directions:
- X12 Pro — thin handle, medium barrel, balanced. The contact-hitter variant.
- I13 Pro — medium handle, large barrel, slight end load. The power-hitter variant (hybrid of 271 + 243).
- XZ Pro — thin handle, large barrel, slight end load. The middle-of-the-order hybrid.
- 271 Pro (this) — medium handle, medium barrel, balanced. The classic that fits everyone.

Tater® vs. other brands
There's a reason pros are switching to swing Tater®
Most wood bats are made for retail shelves — lower-grade lumber, bulk machining, inconsistent pop. The Tater® Wood Bat is hand-split, hand-finished, and bone-rubbed to MLB standards.
- Higher density wood lasts longer and provides better “pop” off the barrel.
- Ink dot tested to prove our bats meet professional standards.
- Hand-split wood follows the natural grain, making bats stronger, more durable, and less likely to break.
- Bone rubbing compresses the wood fibers, making the bat harder, improving durability, and increasing ball exit speeds.
