The Tater® XZ Pro is built for hitters who occupy the middle of the order. Players expected to handle hard velocity, work the gaps, and drive the ball when the situation calls for it. The thin handle keeps the swing fast and precise. The large barrel and slight end load add the weight transfer that turns hard contact into extra bases.

The hybrid wood bat — X12 handle, XL5 barrel

The XZ is a hybrid of two of our most popular turn profiles. It borrows the thin handle from the X12 Pro. That's the same handle that makes the X12 the contact hitter's choice. It pairs that handle with the large compact barrel of the XL5. The XL5 barrel is what gives power hitters their weight transfer at contact. The result is a build that doesn't force middle-of-the-order hitters to choose between speed and power.

The XZ is inspired by Teoscar Hernández's game model. Hitters who occupy the 3, 4, or 5 hole in the order are the natural fit.

Who should swing the XZ

The XZ is built for middle-of-the-order hitters with strong hand speed who want to drive the ball with authority. If you're a pure contact hitter who lives gap-to-gap, the Tater-X12 PRO is the better choice. If you're a true power hitter who wants max barrel mass, head to the Tater-I13 PRO. The XZ is the middle path between those two.

How does the XZ compare to the X12 and I13?

The XZ is intentionally a hybrid build. The X12 is the pure contact-hitter model — thin handle, medium barrel, balanced. The I13 is the pure power-hitter model — medium handle, large barrel, end load. The XZ takes the X12's thin handle and pairs it with the I13/XL5 barrel — giving middle-of-the-order hitters both speed and mass in one bat.

What's the lead time on a Tater-XZ Pro?

The XZ Pro is a custom build, turned and finished in our Cheshire, Connecticut shop. Standard production time runs about 2-3 weeks from order to ship.

What size wood bat should I order?

Length ranges from 30"–34". Drop weight (length-to-weight ratio) ranges from -3 to +2. Drop weight is the difference between bat length in inches and bat weight in ounces — a -3 drop means a 34" bat weighs 31 oz. Most adult hitters use 32"–34" at a -2 or -3 drop. What types of wood are Tater bats made from?

Hard maple and yellow birch — both MLB-grade. Maple has been the pro standard for over 20 years: densest, hardest hitting surface, biggest pop on clean contact, but a smaller sweet spot and less forgiveness on mis-hits. Birch sits between maple and ash — similar density to maple with more flex on impact, which makes it more forgiving on mis-hits and a smart starting point for hitters transitioning from metal to wood. Yes. Tater Baseball is an MLB-supplier wood bat company — our bats are swung by professional players at the highest level of the game. There is no separate "consumer-grade" production line. The same MLB-grade billets, the same hand-finishing process, and the same QA standards apply to every retail bat we ship as to the bats we cut for pro hitters.

What is the warranty on Tater wood bats?

30-day limited warranty on structural cracking under normal field use. To qualify, the bat must be a 2021 model year or later, you must be the original purchaser with proof of purchase from an authorized Tater dealer, and you must have followed our hitting guidelines (no cage-style dimpled balls, no storage in extreme heat or cold like a car trunk, no excessive moisture exposure). Why are wood bats cupped at the end?

Cupping is a small concave dish drilled into the end of the barrel. It removes a few grams of mass from the very tip, which shifts the bat's balance point slightly toward the hands and makes the swing feel quicker through the zone. Tater hand-cups each bat, and our process allows for variable cup depths to dial in feel without compromising end-cap strength — which actually reduces the risk of chips and cracks on inside pitches.

What is the black dot on the handle?

Every Tater maple and birch bat carries an ink dot near the handle as proof of MLB-grade slope-of-grain certification. The ink dot's bleed pattern reveals whether the wood grain runs cleanly along the bat's long axis — a tight bleed means safe, MLB-spec slope; a fast bleed means rejected billet. The dot is the visible proof every bat passed inspection before leaving our shop.
