Custom Wood Bats — Built to Your Spec in Connecticut
Every Tater custom wood bat starts with hand-selected billet — only the best White Rock Maple or Yellow Birch, ink-dot certified and split-stock. We hand-pick the wood, turn each bat one at a time at low speed for a clean, true cut, and finish it by hand to the same standard we hold our MLB player bats to. There is no shortcut and no defect tolerance — if a billet doesn't meet spec, it doesn't become a Tater.
You choose the model, the wood species, the length and drop, the knob and barrel feel, and the finish. We build it from raw billet to game-ready in our Cheshire, Connecticut shop — the same shop that's been family-owned and operated since 2014, turning out roughly 500–600 bats a week for hitters from youth ball all the way up to the big leagues.
How to choose your custom build
Not sure where to start? Take the Bat Finder — it walks you through length, drop, wood species, and turn model in about 60 seconds. New to sizing? Check the Wood Bat Size Chart. Trying to decide between species? Read our Maple vs Birch vs Ash guide before you commit.
Balanced or end-loaded?
Most of the choice comes down to swing feel. Contact and gap-to-gap hitters typically want a balanced custom wood bat — even weight distribution, faster bat speed through the zone. Power hitters who want to feel the barrel working usually go end-loaded — more mass toward the end of the barrel, more momentum at contact.
