Built to the same standard as every Tater® MLB player bat — ink dot certified, bone-rubbed, and backed by a 30-day warranty. #LetThatStickTalk

The Tater® Kurtz16 PRO is the exact Nick Kurtz bat swung in the Major Leagues. Medium-large barrel, thin handle, balanced swing weight. Built to stay quick through the zone and drive the ball to all fields. Hand-built in Cheshire, CT from MLB-grade hard maple.

THE NICK KURTZ BAT — BUILT FOR HITTERS

Tater Baseball® supplies Nick Kurtz with his game bats. The Kurtz16 PRO is the same Nick Kurtz wood bat — same turn profile, same wood, same hand-finishing. It's available to high school, college, and adult-league hitters who want to swing what a Major Leaguer swings.

THE FEEL

Thin handle keeps your hands fast through the strike zone. The medium-large barrel punishes contact when you square the ball up. Balanced swing weight that doesn't slow you down on inside fastballs or pull you forward on offspeed.

THE DNA

MLB-grade hard maple, hand-split with the natural grain. Same process, same wood, same standards as every Tater pro-level bat. The Kurtz16 wood bat is ink-dot certified and finished to MLB specs. That's what Nick Kurtz uses in the show.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes the Nick Kurtz KURTZ16 PRO Wood Bat different from other wooden bats, and how will its features help my game?
The KURTZ16 PRO is built exactly like the bat Nick Kurtz uses in the MLB, offering you a genuine professional feel. It's hand-built right here in Cheshire, CT, from MLB-grade hard maple. You'll notice a medium-large barrel for solid contact, a thin handle that allows for incredible bat speed and control through the zone, and a balanced swing weight that makes driving the ball to all fields feel natural. It's ink-dot certified and finished to MLB specs, meaning you get the same quality, wood, and turn profile as Nick's gamer bats. Many hitters find this combination perfect for increasing bat speed while still having enough barrel to drive through the ball effectively.
I'm looking for a bat that feels great and performs well. Is the KURTZ16 PRO a good choice for me, and what sizes are available?
Absolutely! The KURTZ16 PRO is designed for hitters who want that perfect blend of quickness and power. The thin handle promotes fast hands and a powerful barrel whip, while the medium-large barrel provides a great contact zone. The balanced feel makes it easy to generate bat speed and drive the ball consistently. Plus, it's hand-finished and uses the same MLB-grade hard maple you'd find in pro player bats. You can get this awesome bat in sizes 31", 32", 33", 33.5", and 34" to find the perfect fit for your swing.
What size wood bat should I order?
Length ranges from 30"–34". Drop weight (length-to-weight ratio) ranges from -3 to +2. Drop weight is the difference between bat length in inches and bat weight in ounces — a -3 drop means a 34" bat weighs 31 oz. Most adult hitters use 32"–34" at a -2 or -3 drop. Most BBCOR-certified leagues (high school, NCAA) require -3. For a personalized recommendation by height, weight, and league, use our Wood Bat Size Chart at /pages/wood-bat-size-chart.
What types of wood are Tater bats made from?
Hard maple and yellow birch — both MLB-grade. Maple has been the pro standard for over 20 years: densest, hardest hitting surface, biggest pop on clean contact, but a smaller sweet spot and less forgiveness on mis-hits. Birch sits between maple and ash — similar density to maple with more flex on impact, which makes it more forgiving on mis-hits and a smart starting point for hitters transitioning from metal to wood. Read the full breakdown in our Maple vs Birch vs Ash guide at /blogs/the-lumber-yard/differences-between-maple-birch-and-ash-bats.
Do you offer discounts for team or bulk orders?
Yes — team and bulk pricing is available, typically starting at 12 bats. Contact our team sales desk with your spec, roster size, and timing through /pages/contact-us and we'll send a custom quote within one business day. The more bats in the order, the better the per-unit pricing scales.
Are Tater bats suitable for professional play?
Yes. Tater Baseball is an MLB-supplier wood bat company — our bats are swung by professional players at the highest level of the game. There is no separate "consumer-grade" production line. The same MLB-grade billets, the same hand-finishing process, and the same QA standards apply to every retail bat we ship as to the bats we cut for pro hitters.
What is the warranty on Tater wood bats?
30-day limited warranty on structural cracking under normal field use. To qualify, the bat must be a 2021 model year or later, you must be the original purchaser with proof of purchase from an authorized Tater dealer, and you must have followed our hitting guidelines (no cage-style dimpled balls, no storage in extreme heat or cold like a car trunk, no excessive moisture exposure). Full warranty terms and care guidelines at /pages/tater-wooden-bat-warranty.
Why are wood bats cupped at the end?
Cupping is a small concave dish drilled into the end of the barrel. It removes a few grams of mass from the very tip, which shifts the bat's balance point slightly toward the hands and makes the swing feel quicker through the zone. Tater hand-cups each bat, and our process allows for variable cup depths to dial in feel without compromising end-cap strength — which actually reduces the risk of chips and cracks on inside pitches.
What is the black dot on the handle?
Every Tater maple and birch bat carries an ink dot near the handle as proof of MLB-grade slope-of-grain certification. The ink dot's bleed pattern reveals whether the wood grain runs cleanly along the bat's long axis — a tight bleed means safe, MLB-spec slope; a fast bleed means rejected billet. The dot is the visible proof every bat passed inspection before leaving our shop.
