How the Mystery Wood Bat Box works
This bundle is built for buyers who want a Tater® wood bat fast. They don't need to choose the cosmetic details. You pick the length and feel. We pick the model, colorway, and finish from our current inventory. The result is a pro-grade wood bat that ships the next business day. That often saves you the 4-week wait on a fully custom build.
Every bat ships in a -3 weight distribution standard. You may even get lucky and receive a limited-edition colorway or a brand-new model in your bundle. Either way, it's a steal — and it's the same craft standard as every Tater pro-grade bat.
What's included
1 Wood bat — you pick the length and feel; we pick the model, colorway, and finish.
-3 weight distribution standard on every bat.
Free name engraving — up to 15 characters, perfect for personalization or a gift.
Optional 0.5mm HNDL Grip Wrap — included with purchase if you want it.
Possible limited-edition colorway or new model — luck of the draw.
Ships next business day — significantly faster than a custom-build queue.
Money-back satisfaction guarantee — if you don't love it, we'll make it right.
Picking the right feel
You choose between balanced and end-loaded feel — the two main swing-weight categories in our lineup.
Balanced bats are typically preferred by most players and are our most commonly ordered style. Potential models include the X12, 271, X4, or XZ.
End-loaded bats are typically preferred by power hitters (3 or 4 hole hitters). Potential models include the I13, XL5, or 243.

Tater™ vs Other Brands
There's a reason Pros are switching to swing Tater™
Most wood bats are made for retail shelves — lower-grade lumber, bulk machining, inconsistent pop. The Tater™ Wood Bat is hand-split, hand-finished, and bone-rubbed to MLB standards.
✓Higher density wood lasts longer and provides better "pop" off the barrel.
✓Ink dot tested to prove our bats meet professional standards.
✓Hand-split wood follows the natural grain, making bats stronger, more durable, and less likely to break.
✓Bone rubbing compresses the wood fibers, making the bat harder, improving durability, and increasing ball exit speeds.

Frequently Asked Questions
How does the Mystery Bat Box work?
You pick the length and feel (balanced or end-loaded) at checkout. Tater Baseball® picks the specific model, colorway, and finish from our current inventory — meaning you'll get a surprise build, sometimes including a limited-edition colorway or a brand-new model. The bat ships the next business day from our shop in Cheshire, CT with free name engraving up to 15 characters.
What's the difference between balanced and end-loaded feel?
Balanced bats have even weight distribution from handle to barrel — the most commonly preferred style, used by contact hitters and most players in the lineup. Potential models include the X12, 271, X4, or XZ. End-loaded bats have more weight toward the barrel end, generating extra whip and exit velocity. Power hitters (3 or 4 hole hitters) typically prefer end-loaded. Potential models include the I13, XL5, or 243.
Can I return the Mystery Bat if I don't like the model or colorway?
Yes. Every Mystery Bat carries our money-back satisfaction guarantee. If the bat doesn't work for you, we'll make it right. Most buyers love the surprise — but if not, just reach out.
What size wood bat should I order?
Length ranges from 30"–34". Drop weight (length-to-weight ratio) ranges from -3 to +2. Drop weight is the difference between bat length in inches and bat weight in ounces — a -3 drop means a 34" bat weighs 31 oz. Most adult hitters use 32"–34" at a -2 or -3 drop. Most BBCOR-certified leagues (high school, NCAA) require -3. For a personalized recommendation by height, weight, and league, use our Wood Bat Size Chart at /pages/wood-bat-size-chart.
What types of wood are Tater bats made from?
Hard maple and yellow birch — both MLB-grade. Maple has been the pro standard for over 20 years: densest, hardest hitting surface, biggest pop on clean contact, but a smaller sweet spot and less forgiveness on mis-hits. Birch sits between maple and ash — similar density to maple with more flex on impact, which makes it more forgiving on mis-hits and a smart starting point for hitters transitioning from metal to wood. Read the full breakdown in our Maple vs Birch vs Ash guide at /blogs/the-lumber-yard/differences-between-maple-birch-and-ash-bats.
Do you offer discounts for team or bulk orders?
Yes — team and bulk pricing is available, typically starting at 12 bats. Contact our team sales desk with your spec, roster size, and timing through /pages/contact-us and we'll send a custom quote within one business day. The more bats in the order, the better the per-unit pricing scales.
Are Tater bats suitable for professional play?
Yes. Tater Baseball is an MLB-supplier wood bat company — our bats are swung by professional players at the highest level of the game. There is no separate "consumer-grade" production line. The same MLB-grade billets, the same hand-finishing process, and the same QA standards apply to every retail bat we ship as to the bats we cut for pro hitters.
What is the warranty on Tater wood bats?
30-day limited warranty on structural cracking under normal field use. To qualify, the bat must be a 2021 model year or later, you must be the original purchaser with proof of purchase from an authorized Tater dealer, and you must have followed our hitting guidelines (no cage-style dimpled balls, no storage in extreme heat or cold like a car trunk, no excessive moisture exposure). Full warranty terms and care guidelines at /pages/tater-wooden-bat-warranty.
Why are wood bats cupped at the end?
Cupping is a small concave dish drilled into the end of the barrel. It removes a few grams of mass from the very tip, which shifts the bat's balance point slightly toward the hands and makes the swing feel quicker through the zone. Tater hand-cups each bat, and our process allows for variable cup depths to dial in feel without compromising end-cap strength — which actually reduces the risk of chips and cracks on inside pitches.
What is the black dot on the handle?
Every Tater maple and birch bat carries an ink dot near the handle as proof of MLB-grade slope-of-grain certification. The ink dot's bleed pattern reveals whether the wood grain runs cleanly along the bat's long axis — a tight bleed means safe, MLB-spec slope; a fast bleed means rejected billet. The dot is the visible proof every bat passed inspection before leaving our shop.
I decided to pick up the mystery game bat and mystery fungo. The game bat I chose a 32 -3 end loaded. so they sent me the x6 pro. Let me tell ya this thing feels amazing in the hands haven't hit with yet but I have no doubts it will be a beast. Purple is my color. This is the first time I have ordered from them and for them to send me purple was unreal. The grip feels amazing. Can't wait to hit with it. The mystery fungo bat they sent was a beautiful blue. And feels excellent as well. Hats off to the crew at Tater Baseball. You killed this one. Will be ordering more in the future.
Couldn’t be happier with the Mystery Bat I received, it has the MLB ink dot, the color scheme and HNDL grip are perfect too. Thank you Tater! 10/10 would recommend.
271 Turn Model is what came in my box and it’s gorgeous, I’m going to have to do another . I also ordered 2 customs one for me and one for my son . I’ve swung Tucci,Old Hickory , Victus, Louisville , marucci , B45, & Chandler bats. All were excellent but something about this one just gets me ! I love Tater not just because it’s Swaggy and Original but these sticks drop some serious bombs 💣 I’ve currently got a maple and I’ve got a birch on the way. I’ll have videos up with all my taters on IG @schivoelchivo . Nothing but love for these guys @Tater and thank you for having military discount it means a lot to us veterans out there.
I love the finish and look of that bat. The color is a beautiful blue with metallic red lettering and decal. The knob sticker is funny. The grip feels nice. I used it for a few swings and the wood quality feels nice on contact. My own "complaint" is that I got the one model a dreaded... the plain old 271. That's the risk, right? LOL But seriously, it's a high quality bat and I may get an end loaded one to see what happens.
Ordered 1 balanced and 1 end loaded bat from the mystery box and got 2 models that i've never swung before. Not a bad thing though because I quickly fell in love with both of them. I usually swing an XL5 but I got an I13 for my end loaded and an XZ for my balanced one. Both bats have fantastic feel and I've yet to swing a bat with as much pop as a tater. Got custom engraving on them and they still shipped out within 48 hours of me placing the order. They were at my front door within a week. Great service, great bats, great everything!
Loved the bat model I received the quality is amazing , Feels good has a great pop … Can’t go wrong with a mystery bat all the bats offered are definitely worth more then what you pay for …!! Get yours asap .. !!
Loved the bat and wrap combo. The video on the website was done very well, and it was true. I liked the ability to choose the length/weight as well as the style. My son playing in 15/16 has had many cage sessions with it so far and loves it!
Great looking beautiful bat. Cant wait to use it. There is one small dent in the wood on the barrel, but i dont think itll effect the performance of the bat. Overall, very pleased with the looks of the bat and hard to wait the two weeks until games resume so i can see it in action.
I bought this bat for my 15 year old son.
He really loves it. We ended up with a 31” balanced bat. He could have gotten away with end loaded but we will save that for when we order a custom model.
Great mystery box and fast shipping to my home in Mass.
Purchased Tater products for my son's and they have loved the quality and look of everything we have received. On top of that Tater's customer service is amazing! They go above and beyond to ensure each person has a great experience. Could not be happier with all of our purchases!

I purchased the "mystery box" bat that came with a pine tar. I love tater bats so figured I would roll the dice on what it would look like and all I can say is WOW! This one blew me away. I love it! Almost don't even want to use it to hit!
Great work guys. Awesome bat.
