The Tater® C271 Youth Wood Baseball Bat is a youth 271 wood bat designed for aspiring young power hitters. Built on the classic 271 turn profile, the bat features a longer barrel, a medium flared knob, and pro-grade maple. It's the right choice for the bigger kid in youth leagues who wants to drive the ball with authority. Hand-built in the USA.

The youth 271 wood bat for power hitters

The C271 youth bat is engineered for young hitters with the size and strength to swing a larger profile. The longer barrel gives a larger hitting surface — more chance to make solid contact. The medium flared knob keeps the grip comfortable and controlled. The result is a bat that gives bigger youth players the feel of a pro turn model. The build stays youth-appropriate.

Built for Little League and USABat-compliant play

The C271 carries the 2.25" barrel diameter required by Little League and local baseball standards. It also meets the USA Baseball Bat standard (USABat) as adopted by Little League. That makes it ready for play in:

  • Little League
  • AABC (American Amateur Baseball Congress)
  • Babe Ruth
  • Cal Ripken
  • Dixie Youth Baseball
  • PONY League

Solid one-piece wood bats like the C271 are approved for play with or without the USA Baseball mark. That's per Little League's Rule 27. That gives parents peace of mind buying a wood bat for a USABat-required league. The C271 is the Little League wood bat parents trust for these leagues.

How to size the C271

The C271 is built for the "bigger kid." That means youth players with the strength and size to swing a longer barrel. Choose between -5 or -6 drop options to tailor the swing weight to the player's style. Smaller youth players or hitters new to wood should start with a lighter drop. New to wood entirely? Check the Wood Bat Size Chart for guidance on length and drop by age and height.

Tater™ vs Other Brands
There's a reason Pros are switching to swing Tater™
Most wood bats are made for retail shelves — lower-grade lumber, bulk machining, inconsistent pop. The Tater™ Wood Bat is hand-split, hand-finished, and bone-rubbed to MLB standards.
Higher density wood lasts longer and provides better "pop" off the barrel.
Ink dot tested to prove our bats meet professional standards.
Hand-split wood follows the natural grain, making bats stronger, more durable, and less likely to break.
Bone rubbing compresses the wood fibers, making the bat harder, improving durability, and increasing ball exit speeds.

F.A.Q.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What size bat should I order?

Length: Any length from 30''-34''

Weight: Any weight from -3 to +2

Drop weight is the difference between bat length and weight. To determine a
bat’s weight in ounces, take the drop weight number and subtract/add it from the bat length. For example, a -3 drop weight means that a 34" bat
weighs 31 ounces (34 -3 = 31).

What types of wood are Tater bats made from?

Tater wood bats are made from top-grade maple and birch. Each type of wood offers unique benefits in terms of hardness, flexibility, and performance.

Maple has been dominating the batters box for the last 20+ years. Maple is the most used wood species in the pros. It is the most dense of the three wood bats and strongest all around.

However, since maple doesn't have much give or flex - more energy is transferred upon impact at the plate.

The downside to using maple is that the "sweet spot" is smaller than other woods and it is not as forgiving as other wood species on a miss hit.

Since there is little to no flex hitters who drive ball off end of the bat or hitters who don't like to crowd the plate may want to look towards Birch or Ash as a better option.

Birch is known to be the best of both worlds when compared to maple and ash. It has been becoming increasingly popular among players of all age groups.

It has similar density properties as maple yet has more flex and is more forgiving on miss hits.

This is especially a great option for new players to wood who do not want to pass up durability for performance and also suitable for players who are playing up a division
or age.

If you do not agree to the terms of this warranty, do not use your bat. Return your bat to the dealer of purchase. See the dealer’s return policy for details and/or additional return requirements. outlined below
.

Do not hit Cage-Style Dimpled Baseballs

Do not store bat in a car, garage, or areas exposed to heat or extreme conditions, as this can cause the wood to expand, contract, or crack.

Keep the bat away from excessive moisture, which can cause the wood to swell or warp.

Do not modify or sand the handle of the bat.

Do not strike the ball where the Tater logo shows – ball markings on logo will void warranty.

Failure to adhere to the Hitting Guidelines will automatically void your replacement guarantee.

why are bats cupped at the end?

An integral part of the bat, a quality cup is essential. Our handcrafted cupping allows for cups of different depths, altering the weight and feel of the bat.

Our process allows the bat to be more durable and exponentially decrease the risk of chips and cracks.
