Tater 243 Pro — The 243 Wood Bat for Maximum Power
243 wood bat design is what the Tater 243 Pro is built on — the heaviest big barrel wood bat in our lineup. The extra-large barrel and end-loaded weight distribution put more mass further down the bat, creating the kind of swing weight that power hitters feel at contact and pitchers feel in the box score. This big barrel wood bat is not for everyone, but for the right hitter, it's the most dangerous bat we make.
The thin handle is what makes the 243 baseball bat profile work as a power hitter wood bat without becoming unwieldy. With a thicker handle, the extra-large barrel would slow the swing down; the thin handle keeps the bat speed up so all that barrel mass translates into exit velocity. The traditional knob keeps the grip neutral and out of the way, which lets aggressive hitters commit fully through the zone.

Maple or birch?
Maple gives this big barrel wood bat the hardest hitting surface and the cleanest "pop" sound off the barrel — the most common pick for a power-hitter end loaded wood bat. Birch flexes a touch more and is more forgiving on mis-hits, which a lot of high-school and college hitters prefer. What kind of hitter is the Tater 243 Pro built for?
The 243 Pro is built for experienced power hitters. The extra-large barrel and end-loaded weight distribution put more mass down at the contact zone, which creates more momentum and more exit velocity when you square the ball up — but it also requires bat speed and timing to handle. Contact hitters and hitters still building strength are usually better served by a balanced profile like the X4 or X24; the 243 rewards hitters who can already work a heavier-feeling bat.
How does the 243 compare to the XL5 or X6?
All three are end-loaded, but the 243 is the most aggressive. The XL5 is built on the AP5 silhouette with a slight flare knob and a slight end load — a power profile that doesn't punish you for not being a slugger. The X6 is built on the 141 turn with an extra-long barrel and slow taper — end-loaded but versatile across hitting styles. The 243 is the heaviest of the three: extra-large barrel, traditional knob, thin handle, and the most pronounced end-load feel. If the XL5 is the standard power play and the X6 is the versatile one, the 243 is the full commitment.

What size wood bat should I order?
Length ranges from 30"–34". Drop weight (length-to-weight ratio) ranges from -3 to +2. Drop weight is the difference between bat length in inches and bat weight in ounces — a -3 drop means a 34" bat weighs 31 oz. Most adult hitters use 32"–34" at a -2 or -3 drop. What types of wood are Tater bats made from?
Hard maple and yellow birch — both MLB-grade. Maple has been the pro standard for over 20 years: densest, hardest hitting surface, biggest pop on clean contact, but a smaller sweet spot and less forgiveness on mis-hits. Birch sits between maple and ash — similar density to maple with more flex on impact, which makes it more forgiving on mis-hits and a smart starting point for hitters transitioning from metal to wood. Yes. Tater Baseball is an MLB-supplier wood bat company — our bats are swung by professional players at the highest level of the game. There is no separate "consumer-grade" production line. The same MLB-grade billets, the same hand-finishing process, and the same QA standards apply to every retail bat we ship as to the bats we cut for pro hitters.
What is the warranty on Tater wood bats?
30-day limited warranty on structural cracking under normal field use. To qualify, the bat must be a 2021 model year or later, you must be the original purchaser with proof of purchase from an authorized Tater dealer, and you must have followed our hitting guidelines (no cage-style dimpled balls, no storage in extreme heat or cold like a car trunk, no excessive moisture exposure). Why are wood bats cupped at the end?
Cupping is a small concave dish drilled into the end of the barrel. It removes a few grams of mass from the very tip, which shifts the bat's balance point slightly toward the hands and makes the swing feel quicker through the zone. Tater hand-cups each bat, and our process allows for variable cup depths to dial in feel without compromising end-cap strength — which actually reduces the risk of chips and cracks on inside pitches.
What is the black dot on the handle?
Every Tater maple and birch bat carries an ink dot near the handle as proof of MLB-grade slope-of-grain certification. The ink dot's bleed pattern reveals whether the wood grain runs cleanly along the bat's long axis — a tight bleed means safe, MLB-spec slope; a fast bleed means rejected billet. The dot is the visible proof every bat passed inspection before leaving our shop.

Really Impressed! The bat is amazing. I expected the bat to be a good product, so when I used it and realized its was not only good, but top tier I was pleasantly surprised. I'm big on wood bats, I have over 30 in my collection at the moment and Tater is my favorite, I ordered the 243 and the I13 and they both are well made, hard wood with lots of pop and the sound it makes when you square a ball is big league. They claim to sell you the same thing they sell the big leaguers and from what I can tell they really do. And the finish is very aesthetically pleasing. It looks fire:fire: And I emailed them about making me a custom bat and they emailed me back talking about options and what they could do so I went ahead and bought 2 more. These guys really go above and beyond to sell you the best bat you can buy. I'm Tater for life now!
Best gift I decided to gift my brother this model because he said he broke two bats in one weekend of games. When he got it he instantly fell in love with the size and how nicely the weight is on the bat. Being able to customize the bay to the very last detail was all a jaw dropper for my brother has he say the Colors.and what was written on the bat.

Best Wood Bat My son is a competitive baseball player and used this bat to train and in hitting lessons for almost 2 years. This bat never broke and worked well. He had another wood bat that he got for this Christmas, brought it to the cage for a little tee work and soft toss, it broke. He never hit it wrong just not the quality of the Tater. In his words this was my favorite bat.
