Tater U238 Pro — The High-Volume Hitter's U-Knob Wood Bat
U-knob wood bat design solves the problem cage rats know best. The pressure points at the base of the handle that cause hamate injuries, blisters, and bottom-palm bruising. The U-shape redistributes that pressure across a wider area. Less wear and tear on the hand, no compromise at the plate.
Pair that hamate protection wood bat profile with the XL5's elongated barrel and slight end load and you get a power hitter wood bat that holds up through extended sessions. The thin handle keeps the swing fast. The barrel stays easy to manipulate. Gap hitters get control to work the whole field. Power hitters get the whip to drive the ball when they get their pitch.
Why high-volume hitters pick the U238
Hitters who live in the cage face a problem nobody talks about. Take enough swings with a standard knob and the bottom hand starts breaking down. Hamate inflammation. Blisters at the palm pad. Bruising that lasts for days. The U-knob is the training wood bat solution. Same wood, same turning logic, same hand-finishing as the bats we cut for hitters in MLB, MiLB, and Division I college play. Family-owned since 2015, 500–1,000 bats a week out of our Cheshire, Connecticut shop.
Maple or birch?
Maple gives the U238 the hardest hitting surface and cleanest "pop" sound off the barrel. Birch flexes a touch more and is more forgiving on mis-hits. Either way, the U-knob design and XL5 barrel profile stay the same. Read more in our Maple vs Birch vs Ash guide.

Tater® vs. other brands
There's a reason pros are switching to swing Tater®
Most wood bats are made for retail shelves — lower-grade lumber, bulk machining, inconsistent pop. The Tater® Wood Bat is hand-split, hand-finished, and bone-rubbed to MLB standards.
- Higher density wood lasts longer and provides better “pop” off the barrel.
- Ink dot tested to prove our bats meet professional standards.
- Hand-split wood follows the natural grain, making bats stronger, more durable, and less likely to break.
- Bone rubbing compresses the wood fibers, making the bat harder, improving durability, and increasing ball exit speeds.
